Served in the United States Marine Corps from June 1967- June 1987
Went in to be a GRUNT (0311) but sounder reasoning sent me to "Aviation Mechanic Training".
First duty station NAS Memphis TN. Then to MCAF Santa Ana, Ca., working on Helicopter engines in an intermediate level station. Next back to NAS Memphis for formal training on jet engines. Then to MCAS Cherry Point, Nc. working flight line inspection, (launch and recovery of F-4 Aircraft). Then to Vietnam, (flight line launch and recovery of aircraft and maintenance). Chu Lai, Danang and Red Beach. Transpac of a squadron to Hawaii from Vietnam then back to Vietnam. Next to MCAS Beaufort, Sc. Flight Line, Phase Maintenance, Quality Assurance and maintenance Control and deployment to NAS Miramar for Top Gun training. Next to MCRD San Diego for Drill Instructor duty. NCOIC in charge of Physical Training Division, (Close Combat, Fitness, obstacle Course, and Water Survival. Then MCAS Kaneohe and deployments to MCAS Iwakuni, Japan, Okinawa, Korea, and the Philippine's, MCAS Yuma, Nellis AFB for Red Flag. Then selected for First Sergeant in Hawaii, Motor Transport Company. Transferred to MCB Lejeune, Nc. Assigned as Sergeant Major of a Direct Support Battalion deployed to FT. McCoy for cold weather training and further deployment to Norway. Returned to MCB Camp Lejeune for assignment to 2nd FSSG, MSSG-22 for deployment for Med Cruises. USS Newport and USS LPD-1 Raleigh. Returned and retired 30 June 1987.
